Easy Way To Eat Your Daily Greens!

Is it hard to get your daily vegetable intake? Are you struggling to incorporate greens into your daily diet? Me too. Which is why I have come up with a quick and easy solution! This is the closest I have come to “meal prep”….unless individually wrapping bagels in saran wrap and freezing counts.

It is important for everyone to eat their daily green vegetables, but even more so when you are pregnant. Pregnant women need more iron in their diet, which can be found in fruits and vegetables, (and steak, and burgers….we’re getting off track here). Below is a list of things you will need, to get in the green smoothie routine!

  1. Leafy greens; spinach, kale, swiss chard and kale are great! You can usually find a box of mixed “Super Greens” at the store, which is perfect for this smoothie
  2. Bananas; Use ripe ones for more sweetness (don’t be scared of the brown on the peel)
  3. Resealable bags or storage containers
  4. Water or coconut water; I personally am not a fan of coconut water, but if it is your thing, try it!
  5. Anything else you want to throw into your smoothie (optional); frozen blueberries, cucumber, tomatoes….really whatever you have in your fridge.
  6. Blender; Preferably a Ninja or Vitamix

Every week, I go to the store and buy 3-4 bananas, and a bin of super greens. I take about 3 handfuls of greens, and 1/2 of a banana, and place in a resealable bag. You really only want to use 1/2 of the banana, otherwise the smoothie becomes too thick, but a little bid adds some sweetness and great texture! If I have other fruit or vegetables that I want to add, then I will add those as well, but not necessary.


Once you have all of your bags packed, (4 bananas will pack 8 bags), throw them in the freezer. Meal prep! I just like to say that. Every morning, I wake up, reach in the freezer, dump my bag into my Ninja, add about 1 cup of water (play around to find your preference, you may want it thicker or more watered down), and blend on level 3 for about 2 minutes.


I have had my blender for almost 5 years now, and love it! You can use it for soups, sauces and, of course, smoothies! My parents have had a Vitamix for about 7 years, and absolutely love it as well, so it’s all about preference. I definitely suggest investing in a good blender though. You have no idea how much you will use it until you have one.

Ok, your smoothie is done. You have some options here. Are you going to drink it right away? If so, go ahead and pour into a glass, or a sports shaker , (these work well because it helps with the settling). Sometimes I need coffee like yesterday, so my smoothie will go with me to work. In this case, I like to use these plastic mason jars. These are also great if you want to make the smoothies ahead of time. You can just freeze the mason jars, and place in the fridge the night before you want to drink it, to defrost.


You have now run out of excuses on why you are not drinking your greens every morning. This is just too easy! And, believe it or not, very tasty! So do yourself a favor, (and your little one if you are pregnant or breastfeeding), and start this routine TODAY!
